PERFECTION

The 73,8m superyacht Ilona pulled into West India Dock in London in December 2015 for a lengthy stay whilst her owner was on business. The downtime in port allowed some maintenance of her twin Limousine Taxi boats.  They spent the next three months expertly varnish all applied by ....hand !

THE PROCESS

2016

The tenders were made using a method of boat building called 'cold-moulded construction. The hull comes off of a jig and is built by laminating layers of wood or wood planks.

We stripped off 10 years of varnish which we estimated to be around 40 layers thick. Once they were back to bare even colour, and after completing a few repairs on defects in the wood,  we applied, by hand, 20 coats of the best varnish available on the market. Once the final topcoat had been applied,  we then buffed the varnish to a high shine finish.

The final result was a glorious deep mahogany colour with a flat mirror shine.

Old world meets new world in these beautifully design speed machines. A truly unique project with a perfect end result.
